But aloe vera juice is also great for thickening your hair, so you’ll see a lot of natural hair shampoos and conditioners today that have aloe vera in the ingredients. Aloe vera has tons of vitamins and minerals that are present keep your hair strong and healthy. Because of aloe vera’s antibacterial and antifungal properties, it also helps with dandruff, and the gel’s enzymes can rid the scalp of dead cells and promote the regeneration of skin tissue around the hair follicles.

Taking aloe vera juice internally for starters is one of the things I recommend, so drink about a half a cup, twice a day. Now you can buy aloe vera juice in small proportions, but I found, bang for your buck, getting a whole gallon of aloe vera juice is the better way to go. Beyond thickening your hair, it’ll also give you healthier skin and nails.
Try the Tangle Teezer once and you’ll never use a comb again. Short, flexible bristles have give to them so they won’t pull out fragile hairs, says hairstylist Mia Santiago of Sharon Dorram Color at Sally Hershberger. You can even detangle wet hair: “If I used a paddle brush on my wet hair, I could make a voodoo doll of the hair that comes out,” she says.
Take several drops of rosemary oil and mix it with some benefit-rich olive oil. Massage that mixture into your scalp for just a couple minutes and leave it in there for anywhere from three to four hours.
There is no need to rinse out the aloe vera (as long as it is pure aloe vera gel). I always massage it into my scalp (and hair) after washing my hair (two times a week). It works great as a leave-in-treatment for scalp and hair – and as a healthy volume-and-moisturizing hair gel!

I desperately need help. I need to grow out my hair in three weeks for an event and I have tried these methods but they do not seem to be working for my hair (my hair hair is African, soft and natural). The coconut oil is working but it works so slowly on my hair, and it will take about two months to grow it out how I want at the rate it is growing. Please me with tips, hacks, tricks. Anything. And I cut my hair for another event one time so that also contributes to the slow hair growth. Please help, I really need to be there for the event!!!
Hi Rebecca SO pleased that you’ve benefitted from the tips in the article! I can’t recommend both coconut oil and scalp massage enough – they work absolute wonders for your hair health. So happy for you, just a bit of commitment and you really can see an improvement. Thanks for leaving such a lengthy comment, really made my day and I will try the mask with yogurt and honey too. All the best with your hair journey! Anushka
Anushka….i owned a Holistic Health Center in Naples, Florida and was recommending Silica for hair and nails over 20 years ago…maybe 30! I will be 60 years old this year and still have hair to mid back. I am going to try coconut oil ON HAIR. I have been using it for other purposes for years but trying massage and coconut oil….will let you know results. Will be charting results and taking pics!
Traction alopecia is caused by adding too much strain on the hair on one’s head. Tight ponytails and other styles that require added tension to the hair are often what cause this disease. It can also occur on the face in areas where the hair is often styled. Plucking or waxing one’s eyebrows frequently, for example, can yield suppressed hair growth in the area.
Just a thought to all of those posting with thinning hair. First, have a blood test. Be sure your thyroid is not off wack. This solved part of my problem. But, my hair was damaged from weaves and stess. Now my hair is shoulder length, I insist on only 5 foils when I need a bit of a color lift. Hairdressers (if the are good), will do this for you at a reduced rate. On a trip to France I started using L’occitane hair repair shampoo in the hotel. My hair was thicker. Came home and started using their products for damaged hair. Expensive, but worth it. But, better still….I tried the banana & oilve old hair mask a month ago. This is even better (in terms of results) than L’occitane hair products. Now I use the banana, oilve oil hair mask a couple of times a week. It is simple and inexpensive. Forget the hair extensions. I am 65 and my hair is thicker and healthier than it was in my 40’s. I have fine blond hair. I have tried 100′s of products. Some hairdressers over process. (if you ask for a weave, ask for 5 foils, not a partial or full weave) avoid over processing. And, do not use that hot flat iron on your hair.
Hi Emily, thanks for getting in touch. I would definitely do the inversion method using a scalp massager every 4 weeks. I can’t think of anything more to add to the list, but I like to take in Biotin rich foods through a smoothie in the morning as it’s absorbed by your body at a faster rate. I mix a handful of spinach and kale with half a banana, 1/4 avocado, almonds and brazil nuts. I always make sure I eat a protion of brocolli every other day. Some people recommend pumpkin seed oil for hair growth – I have not tried it myself but many blogger swear by it.
I read your 6 vitamin for hair growth. My age is 26. My hair is very thin. I go to doctor and doctor suggest me my problem is cronical alopecia. And this problem can not over come. I am very much up set. Day to day my hair is totally lost. My scalp is showing to every body. I very much tenced. My hair is only fall but not growth. Please help me doctor.
I’ve been searching for a hair grow vitamin from France, made with fish oils. I read that Demi Moore used it after she shaved her head for the movie G.I. Jane, and have been searching for it ever since! Can you help me find it?
Adopting the ayurvedic beauty practice of Bhringraj oil could be beneficial, too. Bhringraj is oil made of Eclipta Alba and sesame, which can be bought at an Indian store or can also be made at home. Eclipta Alba has been used for centuries and in studies has been shown to be an effective growth promoter.
Researchers at Tehran University of Medical Sciences in Iran studied the relationship between iron body status and different types of hair loss. They conducted an analytical case-control study to assess whether diffuse telogen hair loss in women between the ages of 15 and 45 is associated with iron deficiency — 30 women with documented telogen hair loss were compared with 30 women without hair loss.
I had really long hair. Well back in December I cut it up to my shoulders(12in.) Got cut off. I’m in desperate need to grow it back out to its original length by May. I’ve read the article and was wondering how well it really works to try the inversion method and coconut oil works.
Hi Julia, sorry to hear that. For the time being I would try not to concentrate on hair growth and more about treating your hair well and getting it back to good health. I would eat plenty of protein-rich foods, treat your hair to a weekly hair mask on the ends and gentle scalp massage. Try not to use any heated tools on your hair, and wash it using lukewarm water – avoid burning hot water – and your hair should be feeling better soon.
If you wash your hair every day, your hair will be hurt and this may prevent it from growing thicker. In addition to this, washing the hair every day also removes the natural oils that are produced by the hair scalp. Instead, washing the hair 3-4 times a week is a healthy hair care routine. With this new routine, your hair will have a chance to reap the benefits of the natural oils. Although your hair may look a bit oily at first, it should balance out within 1-2 weeks.
Correct! While a hair relaxer will straighten curly hair, it will not do anything for thinning hair. In fact, a relaxer could further damage your hair, especially if the product contains lye! Read on for another quiz question.
Hi I have followed the inversion method and massaged coconut oil into m hair 2 times a week… My hair grew 2.5 inches within 2 months of continuous routine. Thank you soooo much. These tips realy are true!!!!!
