Hi Mel. The average rate of hair growth is roughly 0.5inches/month so achieving 15 inches in a year and a half is very unlikely. To increase hair growth, be sure to try out tips! I thoroughly recommend coconut oil and the inversion method 🙂
While you’re doing it make sure you are tipping your head over slightly so it’s hanging over. Sitting on a chair and bending your head over works very well. By doing this, you’re encouraging the blood to flow to your head and are stimulating your hair follicles to encourage the Anagen stage.
Just thinking about the money I’ve saved on going to the barbers alone makes me weep with a weird, nonsensical pride that I can’t grow my hair any longer than Krusty The Clown-style sidebushes. Every time I need a haircut I just get a mirror and my clippers, and go at it – which is quick, painless and involves zero awkward chat with a hairdresser.
I shaved my head this time last year and had about 8 inches of growth from that time. Growing fast is totally an issue for me but also once I grow it out the bottom 3 inches or so are dead. And I mean D.E.A.D. frizzy, white nasty dead ends. What the heck causes that and what do I do?
Hi Taylor. I would say, from personal experience, the inversion method is the most effective for hair GROWTH. If you want to maintain your hair health and growth, I would advise a coconut oil treatment too as it nourishes the hair and keeps it healthy. I hope this helps 🙂
Since my guest had a round face shape, she can pretty much pull off anything. I try not to limit ideas and styles because of their face shape. I encourage my clients to be brave! Take this hair journey with me and I will be there every step of the way.
– Advocates using heat tools everyday for styling to cut back on damage if you need to use a blow dryer wait till your hair is almost dry to reduce breakage & never comb or brush wet hair , hair is more weaker and prone to breakage when it’s wet .
For this cut, I used Kevin Murphy Body Mass to blow out while using the large Varis round brush. We finished with Kevin Murphy Bedroom.Hair for some extra texture. I recommend getting a trim every eight weeks to maintain the bounce in the layers.
Usually, you can easily decipher density by simply looking in the mirror. If you can see traces of your scalp when your hair is in its natural state, it’s highly likely that you have low density. As for thickness, if you take a single strand between your fingers and feel absolutely nothing, chances are your strands are fine.
Protein helps your hair grow and protect it from chemical and environmental damage. If you style or apply heat to your hair often, using a protein treatment can protect your hair. You can purchase these online or use coconut oil at home. Coconut oil helps reduce protein lost both before and after washing hair.
I have very long hair with dandruff 🙁 and whenever i brush my hair i can find a lot of hair fall, so please do help me out and if you don’t mind i also have acne problem on my back which are reduced now 🙂 but the acne marks look bad so can you suggest me some tips to remove acne marks 🙂
Hi there…sorry to hear that! I like to alternate with the oils. I wash my hair every other day, so when I’m not washing my hair I do the inversion method without any oil and then when I am washing my hair the next morning I will use coconut oil when massaging and leave it overnight. You can adapt the method to suit your needs, for example if you only wash your hair once a week then you can use coconut oil just once, but still do the inversion the rest of the days without oil. I hope that makes sense!
“Obviously, if you have thick hair, regular elastics aren’t going to cut it,” says Santiago. But you also need to stay away from anything with a grip or plastic that will get caught in your massive hair and pull it out. Thin and flat fabric hair ties, like Emi-Jay’s, are going to have more staying power and won’t break or dent your giant hair. “Those fat Heathers-style scrunchies would work too, and I wish they were cool—but they’re not,” says Santiago.
According to a research about the effects of stress on your hair [2], stress can be one of the main causes of hair loss. So, you should try to calm down your life, and you will find that your hair starts growing thicker. For example, you can try meditation that may help you find how to deal with your stress better.
Our fine-haired sisters think we’ve got it easy just because we can do a doughnut bun without wearing a sock on our head, but having a mess of hair is sometimes, well, a mess. Here, finally, the solutions to the biggest thick-hair problems—except for clogging up your drain. Alas, we can’t help you there.
Hi Nicki. Although I didn’t write this article, I have had wonderful results trying some of Anushka’s tips. The inversion method in particular worked really well for me 🙂 I’d definitely give it a go!
Confused whole egg or egg whites? Also I have oily hair so I would not want oil on it? And I do have diabetes type 2 now for 10 years and I’m 61. So an answer about the eggs would be nice. And any other comments I would appreciate, Thank You
Not every time no, Anu. You can alternate the days – one day with oil, one day without and so on. Split ends – prevention is better than cure I’m afraid. Once it’s split longer than 1 cm you can hide the split with serum but it’s best to get regular trims and use a weekly moisturising treatment, avoid heat and so on.
“Minoxidil definitely has an effect in most men,” Cotsarelis agrees. “It is not something a bald person would use, but someone starting to go bald would use it. The goal is to maintain the hair you have.”
Mix one tablespoon of Indian gooseberry or amla powder in two tablespoons of coconut oil and heat until boiling. Strain the oil and massage it onto your scalp before going to bed. The next morning, shampoo your hair as usual. Do this on a weekly basis.
Hi Maddie. First off, a big well done to you for donating – how brave and thoughtful of you. Secondly, I think shoulder length hair can be beautiful, so don’t worry about looking nice in those wedding pictures. I would recommend the inversion method, 100%. The coconut oil is mainly for hair repair and strength, so if you’re struggling for time, I’d opt to increase growth-rate through stimulation of the scalp. Let us know how you get on! 🙂
Stacked bobs create volume and will make thick hair appear even thicker. Sometimes it can even make really thick hair look like a flying saucer! Instead of getting a stacked bob, get a layered bob. Layering your hair will remove volume while still giving you style and movement.

Can avocado oil strengthen my hair? Oils play an important role in the health of a person’s hair. Avocado oil may have specific benefits due to its vitamin and mineral composition. When the hair’s natural oil balance is uneven, or the environment has damaged the hair, using oils on the scalp or hair may moisturize it and prevent further damage. Read now
Hi Heidi, that’s exactly it. The massage provides increased blood flow to the hair follicle which boosts growth, if you did it constantly then it wouldn’t be as effective. Massage is brilliant for hair health anyway so it won’t hurt to massage your hair daily but if you’re after rapid growth then you need a break in between.
Having extremely long hair has been my passion since I was 14. I used to think that it was pretty tough. With this article, wikihow articles, and pinterest, I’m able to get my hair to go below the waistline and almost to my hips. I’m getting closer to classic length without realizing it. 6-8 inches to my goal length, baby (15-20 cm)! I eat more than enough almonds almost every day. More than any other nut I’ve eaten. Nobody in my family has hair as long as mine. The longest my female friends and family can go is down to their armpits. My sister had waist length hair and now it stayed at armpit length since last summer (June 2017). Most people don’t start doing treatments to their hair till later in life. It really was a good thing I started paying attention and doing all of the easy steps. Just now as I was doing the inversion method, I apply a really small amount of Argan oil (1 pump to avoid greasiness) and massage it in. It’s like a natural serum without the harsh chemicals including alcohol.
Follicles are a mammalian skin organ and along with stem cells, they help produce and grow hair. Your hair begins to grow from the root in the bottom of the follicle which is made up of cells of protein.
I have been trying to grow my hair longer for a year and it’s just stuck, I take Biotin 10,000 mcg and my hair is thicker for sure, I have new hair, I Added collagen and vitamin c, I have not tried the inversion method, I do have dry hair, so oil is what I need, can I add egg and flaxseed oil with coconut oil when I massage my head and can I leave these ingredients overnight? I need a quick response!!!
This is a great start for anyone with thicker, darker hair that’s looking to go into their first balayage. It’s a realistic goal, plus it lends itself to less maintenance by working with the client’s natural color and blending the hand-painted color up into the client’s root.
Yes egg is giving amazing result..but not possible to use every one (middle class fmlys) bcoz its littlebit expensive..so can I suggest them use it once in a week?? Or give me another option because there is lots of hairfall prblm.
You can buy grass-fed gelatin as a supplement that can be added to hot and room temperature drinks. Great Lakes have an affordable range and can be bought from Amazon. Simply add a teaspoon to your morning tea or coffee.
In most people, scalp hair growth will halt due to follicle devitalization after reaching a length of generally two or three feet. Exceptions to this rule can be observed in individuals with hair development abnormalities, which may cause an unusual length of hair growth.

So I may be the only male in this section but what the heck. My hairstyle is the very bland side parting/quiff which I’ve had for years now and I just want a change! I get regular haircuts which may be every 2-3 weeks but it seems that if I leave my hair longer than this it just stops growing on the sides especially. Any tips would be appreciated as I am hoping to just grow the sides to get an evenly proportioned haircut!!
I know this is not really part of the article, but if my hair has lots of split ends that reaches to my scalp, do I have no choice but to chop it off? My hair is at shoulder length and it has been like that for 2 years and it’s the same length. My hair is not that fried but it’s pretty damaged. I did the unthinkable and I chopped off the side hairs underneath to let them grow healthy and fresh again. It kinda looks stupid now but will this help me of getting the short hairs long again? Any tips?
The three stages of hair growth are the anagen, catagen, and telogen phases. Each strand of hair on the human body is at its own stage of development. Once the cycle is complete, it restarts and a new strand of hair begins to form. The rate or speed of hair growth is about 1.25 centimetres or 0.5 inches per month, or about 15 centimetres or 6 inches per year.
However, be wary of excessive iron supplementation. It can cause iron overload and should be avoided. Patients who don’t respond to iron replacement therapy should undergo additional testing to identify other underlying causes of iron deficiency and hair loss.
Hi so I just recently donated 10 inches off of my hair to an organization that makes wigs for cancer patients, and my hair is now not even touching my shoulders:( I am also in a wedding the first week of February, and i need my hair to grow FAST for the wedding. But I am afraid these tips are not going to work, or be a waste of time(of which i don’t have a lot of). My hair also sucks to get oil out of so what treatment do you recommend?
Hi Mal, thanks for getting in touch! Getting regular trims are essential for healthy hair growth, plus if your hair is dry and split ended then it’ll only appear shorter even if it is growing. I would get a trim about 1-2 inches to tidy up your ends then use a moisturising oil on your hair every week. Are you using hot tools and how often are you washing your hair?
You don’t need to use all the products, but I highly recommend the leave-in conditioner and the treatment. The treatment can be used every time you massage your hair during the Inversion Method instead of a natural oil.
I just got my hair cut to around mid-back but before that I had waist length hair. I really miss my long hair and want to know how well the inversion-with-coconut-oil method works. I’m hoping by the end of this month my hair will be back to it’s original length. Is it possible for it to all grow back in a month? (I just started the inversion method)
Scalp scientist (trichologist) Shirley McDonald recently told Business Insider that other cosmetic fixes like hair transplants are getting much better, and instead of looking like “doll’s hair,” as they used to, they’re getting quite convincing.
I recommend this look to anyone that would like a change without having to commit to high maintenance upkeep. This look is very flattering for many face shapes and since it is so easy to maintain, can work for many lifestyles.
More importantly, according to a research about hair benefits of cold water [1] wash the hair with cold water. In fact, hot water can cause your hair to dry out and become brittle. So, washing the hair with cold water in order to help the hair shaft grow healthy, protecting it from damage and breakage.
Alopecia is a hair loss disease that can occur in anyone at any stage of life. Specifically Alopecia areata is an autoimmune disease that causes hair to spontaneously fall out. It is mainly characterized by bald patches on the scalp or other parts of the body, and can ultimately cause baldness across the entire body. This disease interferes with the hair growth cycle by causing a follicle to prematurely leave the anagen, or active growth, phase and enter the resting, or telogen phase. The hair growth in the affected follicles is lessened or stopped completely.
To get long thick and super soft hair massage organic coconut oil in to your hair 2-4 times a week (leave in 10-25 mins) wash out with shampoo. do this untill hair is growing and healthy. ( No split-ends ) and reduse to 2-4 times a month.
Telogen Effluvium — Telogen effluvium is the second most common form of hair loss, and it’s characterized as different phases of the hair growth cycle. The telogen phase is when the scalp does not produce hair; it’s also known as the resting phase. Typically, 80 percent to 90 percent of the hair follicles are growing at one time, but with telogen effluvium, the number of hair follicles producing hair drops significantly during the resting phase, resulting in shedding or hair loss. Too much protein can affect your kidneys. It may also cause your hair to become brittle, although this is rare. It’s best to get protein from your diet and not supplements. You can get protein from vegetables, nuts, yogurt, and other foods.
