Hair is made up of keratin and dead skin cells. While there’s no direct method to make your hair grow faster overnight, there are steps you can take to keep your hair healthy and long. Talk to your doctor before trying supplements such as biotin, keratin, or other nutritional supplements. They may interact with medications and cause unintended side effects.
Avoid applying essential oils directly to your skin. You can dilute the oil with a few drops of essential oil per ounce of carrier oil. Two other oils that may help include rosemary and peppermint oil. While the trials have been animal studies, results suggest that these oils may benefit hair growth.
I know this is not really part of the article, but if my hair has lots of split ends that reaches to my scalp, do I have no choice but to chop it off? My hair is at shoulder length and it has been like that for 2 years and it’s the same length. My hair is not that fried but it’s pretty damaged. I did the unthinkable and I chopped off the side hairs underneath to let them grow healthy and fresh again. It kinda looks stupid now but will this help me of getting the short hairs long again? Any tips?
Anushka do you have to put your head back or forwards when doing the inversion method? I’m a little confused ? Like would it still work if you hang your head off the bed facing the ceiling or the floor? I’m assuming the floor cause that way you can feel the blood rushing to your head more than the other way? Thank you some great tips can’t wait to try them! ???
Hi there, I also have hypothyroidism and found that by switching to a more natural form of med ie NatureThroid or NP Thyroid, I have noticed dramatic improvements not only to my hair but also to my all around well being. You may want to consider talking with your doctor. BTW: I did have to find a doc that was not only a primary care/endocrinologist…but also trained in natural medicine. The reg MD’s are not trained to prescribe natural thyroid remedies…but funny..CVS and Walgreens both stock and fill my new scripts…so this amazing natural med is not hard to find..you just have to find a doc to work with you
Traction alopecia is caused by adding too much strain on the hair on one’s head. Tight ponytails and other styles that require added tension to the hair are often what cause this disease. It can also occur on the face in areas where the hair is often styled. Plucking or waxing one’s eyebrows frequently, for example, can yield suppressed hair growth in the area.
“The fact this new agent, which had never even been considered in a hair loss context, promotes human hair growth is exciting because of its translational potential: it could one day make a real difference to people who suffer from hair loss,” said the University of Manchester’s Dr Nathan Hawkshaw, who co-authored the study, in statement.

But hey – whoa there, Dr Hawkshaw. Some of us aren’t actually “suffering” from hair loss. Some of us bald guys are enjoying not having any hair, and see no need for this new treatment, and in fact see you scientists constantly trying to cleanse the world of our rugged, sensitive, yet ultimately hairless look as something of an insult.
Hi! I just got engaged, and I’m trying g to grow my hair back out to my waist where it used to be. I have about a year and seven months, and I want my hair back!! It’s to my Hawking now, so I’d say it’s about a fourth of the way there, and with an average of about six inches a year it’d be close but I’m really hoping you can recommend something to help me! My hair is naturally really fine but it’s strong and healthy! Please help!
Hi Charity. It sounds like your hair needs some nourishment! All is not lost, though, coconut oil should soon sort you out. I’d recommend using coconut oil a few times a week, regular trims (to keep your hair healthy and from splitting, which will lead to it shortening) and finally the inversion method to stimulate hair growth. I hope this helps 🙂
Hi Luis, I’m really sorry to hear that. Have you sought medical advice from your Doctor regarding this problem? I hope you will be able to try a few of these tips and tricks, even better if you know someone who can do the scalp massage on you that will help promote growth and help relax you. Scalp massage is a fantastic stress buster, and can really help. Good luck.
The three stages of hair growth are the anagen, catagen, and telogen phases. Each strand of hair on the human body is at its own stage of development. Once the cycle is complete, it restarts and a new strand of hair begins to form. The rate or speed of hair growth is about 1.25 centimetres or 0.5 inches per month, or about 15 centimetres or 6 inches per year.
Hi Lewis! Thanks for joining the discussion. I have a similar problem in that my hair at the back of my head take longer to grow than the front! I would try the inversion method and concentrate on these areas alone so you’ll be boosting the blood flow around the sides. Make sure you measure your hair before and after to see whether it’s worked on not. Remember, massage those sides every day for five minutes for seven days.
I oil my hair twice a week in the night & wash it the next morning, but still my hair looks thin & from the next day my scalp is oily although my hair is dry like oily skin. There is no fresh look & how to get rid of oily scalp.

Hair loss won’t usually feel like much when it’s happening. But sometimes it can be a warning sign of a larger health issue, especially if there’s scarring on the scalp. Women with hair loss who notice other changes in their bodies, like a drop in their voice or more acne, might want to get checked out by a doctor.

According to a research about the effects of stress on your hair [2], stress can be one of the main causes of hair loss. So, you should try to calm down your life, and you will find that your hair starts growing thicker. For example, you can try meditation that may help you find how to deal with your stress better.
Hi there, sorry to hear that. I’m afraid I don’t know too much about this condition, but scalp massage will certainly helps stimulate the follicles. Please give it a go and see how you get on, if in any doubt though please see a doctor for professional help.
Medical conditions. Thyroid disease, lupus, diabetes, iron deficiency anemia, eating disorders, and anemia can cause hair loss. Most times, when the underlying condition is treated, the hair will return unless there is scarring as in some forms of lupus, lichen planus or follicular disorders.
The power of nature is unsurpassed for giving us everything we need to look and feel our best. Women and men alike have been using natural remedies to treat various health concerns and keep themselves happy for thousands of years. Using natural home remedies offers a safe alternative to chemical based products that often contain toxic ingredients that may lead to harmful side effects. There are ways to get thicker hair, and it doesn’t have to cost you your health or a big dent in your pocketbook.
If you leave coconut oil in your hair over night and put a hot towel over it, and then rinse it out in the morning and just use shampoo on the most part of your hair and then just a little bit of conditioner on your ends. Don’t towel dry your hair either cause that breaks your hair and makes it frizzy.
There aren’t many studies on the effects of protein, keratin, and vitamins on hair health. One study looked at a product that had 500 milligrams of keratin and other vitamins and minerals. The group that took the supplement showed:
My favorite thing about the color is my guest’s ability to try different pastel tones as she wishes. The beauty of pastels now is that the more faded they get, the more fashion-forward your hair looks. The cut gives her styling flexibility. She can wear it smooth, textured, tucked behind one ear, or pushed back away from the forehead.
Not every time no, Anu. You can alternate the days – one day with oil, one day without and so on. Split ends – prevention is better than cure I’m afraid. Once it’s split longer than 1 cm you can hide the split with serum but it’s best to get regular trims and use a weekly moisturising treatment, avoid heat and so on.
I read your 6 vitamin for hair growth. My age is 26. My hair is very thin. I go to doctor and doctor suggest me my problem is cronical alopecia. And this problem can not over come. I am very much up set. Day to day my hair is totally lost. My scalp is showing to every body. I very much tenced. My hair is only fall but not growth. Please help me doctor.
Hi Mrunmayee. Your hair’s rate of growth depends on many different factors, so giving an accurate estimate would be hard. The hair grows an average of 1/2 inch per month, so if you measure from your shoulders to your waist, you should get a rough idea of how long this will take. Speed the process up by trying some of our hair growth tips! 🙂
At age 50, I get constant comments on my thick, long, shiny hair. You can see my photos on Facebook if you keyword laurel leigh anderson. My hair became thicker, shinier and grew faster when I went on a High Fat Low Carb Ketogenic diet with low starch, and no sugar. (Keyword “Dr. Eric Westman HFLC” on youtube to learn details.) I went on this diet to lose weight, and I lost 44 lbs. but at the same time, something changed regarding the suddenly much faster, thicker hair growth. It was a noticeable but welcome side effect. If you think about it, it makes sense. Hair is made of keratin which is protein and it becomes shiny and well moisturized because of nutritional fats and oils in the diet. Eating a bunch of sugar, and starchy carbs is not helpful to thick, shiny hair. Overconsumption of carbs leads to diabetes which causes hair loss. If you want your hair to grow, you need protein, oils and fats. Hair is damaged by heat from blow drying and hot irons and the natural oils are stripped out by soaps, surfactants and detergents. I also suggest brushing very very gently, starting at the tips and working back upwards to the scalp with a wide tooth hair pick, and do not brush 100 strokes at bed time or anything like that. I also suggest staying away from chemicals, perms, relaxers and weaves. Do not use cheap rubber bands, do not rip chop pull or tug, do not let the beautician “thin” your hair with shears, nor chop and cut. Instead, just give the beauty shop a rest while you focus on your nutritional status at home. If you see a woman with thinning hair, and you talk to her you will soon learn that they are typically type II diabetic and or “insulin resistant.” Men are a different tale because they may simply have male pattern baldness, but in woman there is one main cause for hair loss: diabetes. Many of these hair loss woman are typically overweight yet malnourished, with a non dewey, haggard and worn looking complexion. If you carefully observe such an overweight woman with thinning hair, you will see them eating candy, drinking soft drinks, eating potatoes, french fries, pasta, rice, breads, parties, chips, so on and so forth. The overwhelming carbohydrate load leads to all her problems: her obesity, her diabetes, her malnutrition, and her hair loss. Supplements I recommend for hair growth include Biotin, MCT oil, Multi B Complex vitamins and Omega 3 and D-3. I also don’t think washing the hair a whole lot is a great plan because strip the oils, and dries it out. Washing daily won’t really help the hair to grow, but if you must wash it, just sparingly soap the crown, and do it every second or third day. Personally, I like the “Agadir Argan Oil Shampoo, Conditioner and most of all the Spray Treatment to add shine and hydrate. Some people recommend coconut oil, but natural coconut oil becomes a solid mass at 74 degrees Fahrenheit. If you buy coconut oil, get fractionated coconut oil, so it will pour from the bottle as a liquid. I sometimes do use that, but I prefer Argan oil from Morocco, which I purchase cheaply in bulk. The least expensive is “Dr Adorable” purchased online from Amazon. All the supplements and vitamins I buy for myself are for sale on Amazon.com because I don’t have a car, so I have it all delivered in a box, to my door, with two day shipping. If anyone wants photos of my hair its laurel one zero six six at gee mail dot com
Listen…make a paste one night before applying. The paste consists of Henna powder, reetha powder, Amla powder and shikakai powder. Now boil methi seeds and tea leaves in water. Now mix all the above powders together with the help of this water and yogurt. Keep it overnight. Right before applying, take one or two eggs according to the length of your hair and beat it properly. Now apply the mask. Keep it for 3-4 hours. Wash it with cold water. Only with cold water. No shampoo, nothing. Now oil your hair properly after your hair dries. Use shampoo the next day. Try once a week. You will see the difference in two months.
Hi there, thank you for your comment. I would suggest you miss out the biotin and coconut oil if you are worried about either of those. If you do the inversion method with no oil! Good luck, I hope it works for you.
“The key for the mass production of HFGs was a choice of substrate materials for the culture vessel,” Professor Junji Fukuda, of Yokohama National University, said in the study. “We used oxygen-permeable dimethylpolysiloxane (PDMS) at the bottom of culture vessel, and it worked very well.”
If you’re considering this look, I recommend air drying with some sea salt spray worked in to bring out natural texture. You can blow dry just the roots if more volume is desired. Then take a 1-inch curling iron or wand and wrap random sections around it to give the hair some polish and define the waves.
Thinning hair itself can be a source of stress. Calm your mind by doing everything you can to help your hair be healthy, like using natural products, making healthy lifestyle choices, and getting all your vitamins.
And why is it so important to know if your hair is thick and dense? You’ll be able to pick the right products to really enhance your hair. “If you have curly hair you can also use products that have too much sulfates which and would ultimately dry hair even more and leave it quite lifeless. With straight hair, you can use ion and voluimizing shampoo in the wrong way and end up with really greasy hair. So, not knowing how your hair really behaves can often have a negative impact on your hair,” explains François.
What it does: Applied to the scalp, this liquid formula aims to improve circulation, ward off free-radical damage, and counteract hormonal activity that can have a slowing effect on your hair-growth cycle.
My best description of this look would be versatile and timeless. My favorite thing about this look is that it is exactly as described. It is versatile in that it is wearable for almost anyone, especially for women with thicker hair.
Hair follows a specific growth cycle with three distinct and concurrent phases: anagen, catagen, and telogen phases. Each phase has specific characteristics that determine the length of the hair. All three phases occur simultaneously; one strand of hair may be in the anagen phase, while another is in the telogen phase.
Gelatin is pure protein and helps nourish your entire body, but it’s especially beneficial to your hair, skin and nails. Gelatin can help the production of collagen in the skin which is essential for strong hair and a healthy complexion. Don’t believe everything you read about skincare containing collagen – you need to boost collagen from the inside as well as the outside! It’ll also help improve joint care.
Stacked bobs create volume and will make thick hair appear even thicker. Sometimes it can even make really thick hair look like a flying saucer! Instead of getting a stacked bob, get a layered bob. Layering your hair will remove volume while still giving you style and movement.
Hi. I have really think hair but it’s around shoulder length. I don’t want it to get thicker but wanted it to grow out as much as possible, as soon as possible. Do these methods thicken your hair or just lengthen it?? Also how well do they work as I would really like long hair as soon as possible as having it styled soon. Thank you :))
Research suggests that insufficient levels of vitamin D have been implicated in a variety of autoimmune diseases, including alopecia areata. A cross-sectional study involving 86 patients with alopecia areata, 44 patients with vitiligo and 58 healthy controls was conducted. Serum 25-hydroxyvitamin vitamin D levels in patients with alopecia areata were significantly lower than those of the patients with vitiligo and the healthy controls. Furthermore, a significant inverse correlation was found between disease severity and serum 25(OH)D levels in patients with alopecia.
Hi Anushka, Certainly I am gonna try inversion method for a week in a month. Can you please share your before and after pics for hair difference. Also want to ask 1 question that whenever I massage my hair and wash it. Hair falls out a lot (lot means lot) is that normal? And how many times in a weak should one wash her hair if getting better with dandruff and dry hair. Thank you for the response!
Hi Mal, thanks for getting in touch! Getting regular trims are essential for healthy hair growth, plus if your hair is dry and split ended then it’ll only appear shorter even if it is growing. I would get a trim about 1-2 inches to tidy up your ends then use a moisturising oil on your hair every week. Are you using hot tools and how often are you washing your hair?
Hi I like the way ur respond any way I have 3c and 4a type hair from the day if born still I want at least down my shoulder hair I have tried all expect gelatin for a years still my hair is 10 up 12 inch noting change but it’s healthy sometimes it broke I don’t what shampoo I use or condition so I use sulfet free please do u have any idea which kind of hospital they know my problem lol thank u dear
If you’re using heat tools every day whether that be hot irons or the hair-dryer, try to cut down on using them while you are doing the Inversion Method. Heat can weaken your hair so even just alternating or going an extra day without heat can dramatically improve the condition of your hair.
I am on a tight budget, so I use regular veg oil, and beeten eggs for protein. When I get back on my feet again, I’ll use the coconut oil, I know it works. Until then what I am using is working, my hair is thicker, shinny, and longer, I have gotten comments on my hair, I’m 50 years old, my hair was thinning and brittle. It takes a while longer, but I’m happy. Now my ex-husband can eat his heart out at my daughter’s wedding in June, cause he loves long hair and mine is growing below my boobs. Lol
It’s actually a normal thing for hair to fall out. Hair starts its life with a long growing phase, and usually about 80% of our hair is in this phase at any given time. But other hairs are getting ready to leave our heads.
Some of the products are hair growth-stimulating shampoos, and others have a more complicated application process that requires you to sit with the product on your head and allow it to work. Do some research to figure out which is right for your needs.
