We large-haired ladies run out of conditioner so much faster than shampoo. For every quarter-size dollop of shampoo you use on your scalp, you gotta use a palm-full of conditioner on your many, many ends.
Mix one tablespoon of Indian gooseberry or amla powder in two tablespoons of coconut oil and heat until boiling. Strain the oil and massage it onto your scalp before going to bed. The next morning, shampoo your hair as usual. Do this on a weekly basis.
I desperately need help. I need to grow out my hair in three weeks for an event and I have tried these methods but they do not seem to be working for my hair (my hair hair is African, soft and natural). The coconut oil is working but it works so slowly on my hair, and it will take about two months to grow it out how I want at the rate it is growing. Please me with tips, hacks, tricks. Anything. And I cut my hair for another event one time so that also contributes to the slow hair growth. Please help, I really need to be there for the event!!!
The Holy Grail of hair-loss treatment is getting shutdown follicles to regenerate. That’s what Cotsarelis’s lab is working on. Already they’ve made a major breakthrough: They’ve learned how to manipulate these stem cells in the test tube.
Hi Gabrielle, Sorry to hear you’re insecure about your hair. To find out if you’re losing hair, you need to go to the doctors or see a specialist. They will look at your scalp for any evidence of this, including bald patches. Most of the time, hair gets thinner towards the ends as it splits. Regular cuts along with hair masks should help with this. I hope this helps 🙂
Massaging your scalp regularly with cold-pressed castor oil is one of the easiest ways to get thicker hair naturally. Due to its high viscosity, it coats the hair thoroughly and protects against hair fall. Plus, being high in vitamin E and fatty acids, it promote hair growth.
Most of us, when we think of hair loss, think about aging men. Nearly all men eventually get that receding M-shaped hairline and thinning hair on the top of the head, also known as male pattern baldness. It’s called androgenetic alopecia, and it’s caused by a by-product of testosterone called DHT.
Hair grows everywhere on the human skin except on the palms of our hands and the soles of our feet, but many hairs are so fine they’re virtually invisible. Hair is made up of a protein called keratin that is produced in hair follicles in the outer layer of skin. As follicles produce new hair cells, old cells are being pushed out through the surface of the skin at the rate of about six inches a year. The hair you can see is actually a string of dead keratin cells. The average adult head has about 100,000 to 150,000 hairs and loses up to 100 of them a day; finding a few stray hairs on your hairbrush is not necessarily cause for alarm.
Alopecia is a hair loss disease that can occur in anyone at any stage of life. Specifically Alopecia areata is an autoimmune disease that causes hair to spontaneously fall out. It is mainly characterized by bald patches on the scalp or other parts of the body, and can ultimately cause baldness across the entire body. This disease interferes with the hair growth cycle by causing a follicle to prematurely leave the anagen, or active growth, phase and enter the resting, or telogen phase. The hair growth in the affected follicles is lessened or stopped completely.
Iam a woman at age 69 and my hair is thining. I hate it when the gray hair sticks out like a sore thumb. I want to purchase a vitamin suppliment that will help my hair to grow. Iam using a shampoo for thinning hair, however, I know I need to take something to help on the inside. I have limited income and can not afford much. Can you offer me any suggestions?
I would live to get advice on thicker hair, lighter eyes, longer eyelashes, facial tips and removing dark circles under eyes. Any and all health and healthy beauty tips. I enjoyed reading your tips would live to have it emailed to me. Thanks in advance.
Comprised mainly of smaller medium-chain fatty acids, the oil is also able to penetrate more deeply and faster than most other conditioners, and because it’s 100% natural you can use it as much as you like without any damage.
Hi Sarah. It sounds like you achieved really great results with your hair growth. The problem is that hair needs regular maintenance, or else the ends will become unhealthy and split. I’d recommend you to get it cut regularly (a small trim every 2 months) from now on. I hope this helps 🙂
In fact, there’s about a hundred different great benefits of using fish oil or cod liver oil.The truth is that your internal health can appear on your skin, and if you take fish oil internally as a supplement, it may be as good as or better than applying conventional moisturizers. Therefore, I recommend that you take about one tablespoon a day of cod liver oil or fish oil — in between 1,000–3,000 milligrams a day would be sufficient.
Hair is considered to be a major component of an individual’s general appearance, and the psychological impact of hair loss results in detrimental changes in self-esteem and self-worth. It also affects a large number of people, as 50 percent of men are affected by genetic hair loss by the age of 50. In women, the major cause of hair loss before the age of 50 is nutritional, with 30 percent affected. The main cause of hair loss for women appears to be depleted iron stores, but corrections of these imbalances can stop the excessive hair loss within a few months. (15)
Female Pattern Hair Loss — Female pattern hair loss or baldness occurs when hair follicles shrink over time. Typically, each time a normal hair follicle is shed, it’s then replaced by hair that’s equal in size. For women with female pattern hair loss, the new hair is finer and thinner. The hair follicles start by shrinking in this way, and eventually they quit growing altogether. This can be caused by aging, changes in androgen (male hormone) levels, or a family history of male or female pattern baldness. (18, 19)
Hi Thanks for sharing these tips but I just have one question. If you use the inversion method and massage every other day with coconut oil without breaking for four weeks in between treatments until your hair is your desired length will it stop working after awhile or damage your hair? Basically what I’m asking is why do you break for four weeks? Thank you!
Alopecia areata often starts suddenly and causes patchy hair loss in children and young adults. This condition may result in complete baldness (alopecia totalis). But in about 90% of people with the condition, the hair returns within a few years.
Some blogs may recommend natural products and the ‘no-poo’ method, which involves cutting out all haircare and relying on baking soda to clean your hair. I am a big fan of Coconut Oil and Olive Oil as both beauty and haircare products, but I found the Lee Stafford range to really work. Coupled with the other elements, I noticed hair growth, new hair growth and also my hair was stronger and shinier than ever.
Hair follows a specific growth cycle with three distinct and concurrent phases: anagen, catagen, and telogen phases. Each phase has specific characteristics that determine the length of the hair. All three phases occur simultaneously; one strand of hair may be in the anagen phase, while another is in the telogen phase.
Hi Kathleen I’m not too sure to be honest, if you’re experiencing some hair loss through medication then you would not want to increase it by vigorously massaging your head. I would try the rest of the tips and perhaps a more gentler scalp massage?
This style of bob is meant to be styled daily and is not meant for wash and go. It is great for anyone trying to grow out a shorter cut or someone wanting to try out short hairstyles, but isn’t ready to commit to a pixie hairstyle!
Ugh, I just cut off 8 inches and I’m sick over it. Granted I needed a good cut, but it’s too short for me. I am so thankful for this article! Sittin here with coconut oil in my hair and I love the smell!
Hi. I have really think hair but it’s around shoulder length. I don’t want it to get thicker but wanted it to grow out as much as possible, as soon as possible. Do these methods thicken your hair or just lengthen it?? Also how well do they work as I would really like long hair as soon as possible as having it styled soon. Thank you :))
Thought my whole 16 years I been trying everything for my hair growth but nothing works for me but as soon as I read this I figure should I give it a try because I want my hair to grow thicker and longer before my senior year on June 3 I’m going to go cut it and I really really hope u guys can recommend me some shampoos and conditioners to use because I really Wang my hair long ??
Scalp scientist (trichologist) Shirley McDonald recently told Business Insider that other cosmetic fixes like hair transplants are getting much better, and instead of looking like “doll’s hair,” as they used to, they’re getting quite convincing.
This look is extremely versatile and complements most face shapes well. It has lots of texture which allows it to be worn well styled or just left alone to dry. The haircut works best for someone with thicker hair and the long fringe is flattering for a prominent forehead or someone who has grey around the hairline and wants to stretch their color a little longer.
So I may be the only male in this section but what the heck. My hairstyle is the very bland side parting/quiff which I’ve had for years now and I just want a change! I get regular haircuts which may be every 2-3 weeks but it seems that if I leave my hair longer than this it just stops growing on the sides especially. Any tips would be appreciated as I am hoping to just grow the sides to get an evenly proportioned haircut!!
There is something appealing about thick hair. Many people try to use commercial products to add volume, but that is not the best way to achieve your goal. This wikiHow will show you lots of other ways to get thick hair.
Hair grows at 0.50 inches on average per month which to me sounds like a lot but in reality why doesn’t it feel it? Well, things like over-styling, bad diet and not taking good care of your hair can result in split ends and breakages which shorten the length of your hair.
Hi Deepti, congratulations on your wedding! I’m sorry to hear about your hair loss, in this case I think it’s best to follow the doctor’s prescribed treatment. You might like to try gentle scalp massage but be careful not to encourage more hair loss. Coconut oil is fantastic for strengthening too. How about eating lots of protein rich foods?
I am 13, I need to grow out my hair. But I hear many people have acne issues due to biotin. Acne isn’t really a problem for me, but I hate it so muuucccchhhhhh. I am also a bit worried to use coconut oil for the inversion method because of my age my skin is oily already. Any ideas?
Not every time no, Anu. You can alternate the days – one day with oil, one day without and so on. Split ends – prevention is better than cure I’m afraid. Once it’s split longer than 1 cm you can hide the split with serum but it’s best to get regular trims and use a weekly moisturising treatment, avoid heat and so on.
I recommend this look for anyone with naturally wavy and thick hair that needs some sort of style. It removes weight while adding movement and texture to any hairstyle. It also looks great with it pulled back, keeping a few layered pieces down and around your face. You will always have a cute style even while wearing it up!
I further promoted circulation by giving myself the time for five full minutes (or, if you’re giving it a go, as close as you can manage) of a yoga inversion pose every day. This might be a headstand, a forward fold, or any other pose that promotes blood to flow to the scalp.
I had chemotherapy and radiation for tonsil cancer about 10 years ago and I can’t get my hair to grow no matter what I’ve tried. I was told to try coconut oil and a regrowth hair product. Will it work or any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Just gave birth 7 months ago and 2 months ago after stopping breastfeeding my hair stop faking like crazy witch is normal they say, it’s hormonal!
