While zinc can help with hair growth for those who are deficient, too much zinc in a non-deficient person can have the opposite effect. I’m currently experiencing hair loss due to supplementing zinc. Please present the complete picture when making recommendations.
Telogen effluvium is temporary hair thinning over the scalp that occurs because of changes in the growth cycle of hair. A large number of hairs enter the resting phase at the same time, causing hair shedding and subsequent thinning.
Hi Emily, thanks for getting in touch. I would definitely do the inversion method using a scalp massager every 4 weeks. I can’t think of anything more to add to the list, but I like to take in Biotin rich foods through a smoothie in the morning as it’s absorbed by your body at a faster rate. I mix a handful of spinach and kale with half a banana, 1/4 avocado, almonds and brazil nuts. I always make sure I eat a protion of brocolli every other day. Some people recommend pumpkin seed oil for hair growth – I have not tried it myself but many blogger swear by it.
Adding a fringe to a haircut will not only give it more character, but will also help in removing bulk. By cutting a fringe, (taking hair that normally falls to the sides and have it fall over the forehead) it lessens the hair and bulk on the sides. This beautiful fringe swoops over the forehead beginning at a deep side part.
Massaging your scalp regularly with cold-pressed castor oil is one of the easiest ways to get thicker hair naturally. Due to its high viscosity, it coats the hair thoroughly and protects against hair fall. This oil has high amounts of vitamin E and fatty acids, that promote hair growth.
It’s not the size of your conditioner bottle that matters, but its contents. “Choosing a highly concentrated conditioner means you won’t need gallons of product,” says Santiago. She likes Kératase Cristalliste and Kérastase Chronologiste conditioners, which are so rich that you only need a dollop. “Avoid any conditioners that say ‘volume’ on the bottle—they’re not for the big-haired,” she says. Adding a deep-treatment mask to your routine is also key. If your ends are extremely damaged, use a mask once a week or every third shampoo, depending on how often you wash, says Santiago. If your ends aren’t too damaged, once a month will do.

Hi there, I know what you mean. I apply coconut oil at night and then shampoo it out in the morning which does the trick for me. How about halving the amount of oil you are applying? You don’t need as much as you think – coconut oil is extremely moisturising even in small doses.
For the second supplement, take a B-complex vitamin or specifically biotin. B-complex has biotin (about 325 micrograms) as well as vitamin B12, both of which have been shown to help thicken hair, skin and nails.
There is something appealing about thick hair. Many people try to use commercial products to add volume, but that is not the best way to achieve your goal. This wikiHow will show you lots of other ways to get thick hair.
When applied over the scalp, rosemary oil is believed to increase cellular metabolism that stimulates hair growth. A 2013 study conducted at Kinki University in Japan found that rosemary leaf extract improved hair regrowth in mice that experienced hair regrowth interruption induced by testosterone treatment. I am dealing with hairline close to my forehead the hair just isn’t wanting to grow at all. Several people have said that my hair is damaged and fried an that there is nothing that I can do; I have been eating a ton of fruits and vegetables but I haven’t noticed a difference at all what more can I do for my hair, I am open to any suggestions or ideas that might help because I have been extremely embarrassed about my hair I’ve been walking around wearing a giant black headband.
Coconut oil is great for your hair and it’s easy to get thicker hair when you use this tropical oil as a treatment. Having a bottle of coconut oil is highly recommended if you wish to take care of your hair naturally and have it looking its best. There are proteins present in coconut oil that are responsible for adding strength to the hair, much like how the proteins in eggs work for treating thin hair.
Just thinking about the money I’ve saved on going to the barbers alone makes me weep with a weird, nonsensical pride that I can’t grow my hair any longer than Krusty The Clown-style sidebushes. Every time I need a haircut I just get a mirror and my clippers, and go at it – which is quick, painless and involves zero awkward chat with a hairdresser.
Styling hair straight keeps thicker hair looking skinny. If you’d like to wear it curly and still look skinny, just make sure not to expand the curls. Keep them close to your head for a subtle yet gorgeous result.
This form of hair loss can also be associated with other medical conditions like coronary heart disease and prostate problems for men, as well as hormonal imbalances in women, according to the National Institutes of Health.
Keratin-based products fill out the hair cuticle and defrizz, says Santiago. She likes Sally Hershberger Hyper Hydration Super Keratin Spray for year-round use, plus a little extra styling time in summer. “I know that’s when everyone wants the ease of wash-and-go styles, but for women with thick hair, it’s worth taking the time to really work in the product to avoid a bad hair day.”
I recommend this look for anyone with naturally wavy and thick hair that needs some sort of style. It removes weight while adding movement and texture to any hairstyle. It also looks great with it pulled back, keeping a few layered pieces down and around your face. You will always have a cute style even while wearing it up!
I shaved my head this time last year and had about 8 inches of growth from that time. Growing fast is totally an issue for me but also once I grow it out the bottom 3 inches or so are dead. And I mean D.E.A.D. frizzy, white nasty dead ends. What the heck causes that and what do I do?

The truth is that hair loss is a complex process that involves various genetic, hormonal and environmental mechanisms. Just like our skin, the hair follicle is subject to intrinsic and extrinsic aging. Intrinsic factors include our genetic and epigenetic mechanisms, and extrinsic factors include smoking and UV radiation.

Deep condition your hair by adding five to 10 drops of essential oil to 3 to 4 ounces of castor oil, olive oil, jojoba oil or sunflower oil. Apply the oil to your hair, taking care to cover each strand. Wrap your hair in a towel and let the oil sit for 30 minutes, then shampoo and condition as normal.
“Your hairstylist has to have really good thinning shears to not cause damage,” says Santiago. Tell your stylist how your hair has reacted to thinning shears or razors in the past. Shears aren’t the devil, but if you’re prone to frizz, they’ll work best for you if used only on the ends of your hair. Your stylist can use a different method to thin out your hair that doesn’t scrape your hair shaft as much.
Hi there, I am.really struggle to grow. I love very curly hair and would love to grow my hair shoulder length. Please help I don’t blow dry every week. Most time wet it.. Just need a nice bundle of Curls of my own. Thanks
Hi Vinita, yes hair specialists do say you shouldn’t wash every day but everyone is different. Some days I do wash my hair every day butI try to cut it down to every other day. I would suggest using the oil on days when you want to wash your hair the next morning, and simply omit the oil on days when you do not want to wash your hair. You can do the inversion method without oil too – I hope that helps 🙂

Can avocado oil strengthen my hair? Oils play an important role in the health of a person’s hair. Avocado oil may have specific benefits due to its vitamin and mineral composition. When the hair’s natural oil balance is uneven, or the environment has damaged the hair, using oils on the scalp or hair may moisturize it and prevent further damage. Read now
A human study conducted in 2015 investigated the clinical efficacy of rosemary oil in the treatment of androgenetic alopecia. Patients with androgenetic alopecia were treated for six months with either rosemary oil or minoxidil (2 percent), which served as a the control group. Minoxidil is a medication used to stimulate hair growth and slow balding.
Studies show that women with an iron deficiency are at a higher risk of hair loss, and serum ferritin levels below or equal to 30 milligrams/milliliter are strongly associated with telogen hair loss. Low serum zinc levels have also been linked to alopecia areata cases.
Our fine-haired sisters think we’ve got it easy just because we can do a doughnut bun without wearing a sock on our head, but having a mess of hair is sometimes, well, a mess. Here, finally, the solutions to the biggest thick-hair problems—except for clogging up your drain. Alas, we can’t help you there.
Avoid chemical based shampoo, conditioner and styling products. Most hair products contain chemicals that are effective at cleaning your hair but may cause much damage. Some people aren’t affected by these chemicals, but if you’re worried about thinning hair, it’s best to avoid them.
