Ever since I was a teenager I’ve been some what follically changed with a very sluggish hair growth cycle. This is caused by a combination of genetics, over-styling and a low iron count, and my hair can go through phases of struggling to grow new hair so it needs a helping hand every now and then.
People have always asked me how I end up having such long hair in such a short span of time. Well, I wish I could say it was plain genetics, but honestly, it is more about this little oil and aloe vera treatment mixed with some vitamin E, castor oil and coconut oil. I learn this method and massage treatment from mom at a very young age, and I have to say that this is one of the biggest reasons why my hair is the way it is today! As an Indian I have learnt lots of ancient Indian hair care secrets from the previous generations, and this one is one of my favorites in my whole routine. Hence this tutorial today, hope you like it!
And do I any look any worse? Well, guys don’t care if I’m bald or not. In fact, most guys I know either think I look way harder than I actually am, or come up to me and comment on how they wish they could shave all their hair off but can’t because they have decided to cling on to the dying embers of their hairline.
Your scrunchie-busting hair can be a hazard: One of our editors had an elastic fail dramatically while on a date. Her cascading waves would have had that sexy librarian-letting-her-hair-down vibe if the errant hair tie hadn’t ended up in the dude’s wine glass.
A 2009 study published in Annals of Dermatology evaluated the therapeutic effects of oral zinc supplementation for 12 weeks in 15 alopecia areata patients who had low serum zinc levels. Oral zinc gluconate (50 milligrams) supplementation was given to alopecia areata patients without any other treatment. The serum zinc levels were measured before and after zinc supplementation, and then a four-point scale of hair regrowth was used to evaluate the therapeutic effect.
The key to a good style starts in the shower. We washed and conditioned with L’Oreal B6 Biotin. We then used Dual Stylers by Techni.art Liss and Pump-up (also by L’Oreal) for volume with a velvety smooth finish. I finished the look with Kevin Murphy Shimmer.Shine and a little hairspray!
According to studies, taking high doses of biotin can help treat weak hair and nails. In fact, this benefit of vitamin B7 biotic was first discovered when horses were effectively treated with biotin to correct problems with the horses’ hoofs becoming brittle and cracked.
Biotin and pantothenic acid (vitamin B5) have been used as alternative treatments for hair loss. Biotin benefits your hair by rebuilding hair shingles that have been damaged from over-shampooing, exposure to the sun, blow-drying and ironing. Vitamin B5 supports the adrenal glands, which helps stimulate hair growth.

Oh no sorry to hear that, how frustrating for you! I definitely recommend the scalp massage using some natural oils like coconut or olive oil. Try this every day for 5 minutes once a day for a week and let me know how you get on.
Hi Lamont. Wow, it sounds like you have been doing all the right things and achieved some really fantastic results by doing so! We’re so glad to hear you’ve found a solution that really works for your hair. Please do keep us updated – we love hearing hair-success stories!
Massaging your scalp regularly with cold-pressed castor oil is one of the easiest ways to get thicker hair naturally. Due to its high viscosity, it coats the hair thoroughly and protects against hair fall. Plus, being high in vitamin E and fatty acids, it promote hair growth.
Like the cure for cancer, those new treatments aren’t nearly ready for prime time. But they’re coming, promises George Cotsarelis, MD, director of the Hair and Scalp Clinic at the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia.
Hi Beth, it really depends on how thick and long your hair is. I use around half a teaspoon and I have mid-length hair to my shoulders. A little goes a long way though so I would just add a few drops/amounts at a time and massage in. You can always add more.
Hi. I have really think hair but it’s around shoulder length. I don’t want it to get thicker but wanted it to grow out as much as possible, as soon as possible. Do these methods thicken your hair or just lengthen it?? Also how well do they work as I would really like long hair as soon as possible as having it styled soon. Thank you :))

Hi Mal, thanks for getting in touch! Getting regular trims are essential for healthy hair growth, plus if your hair is dry and split ended then it’ll only appear shorter even if it is growing. I would get a trim about 1-2 inches to tidy up your ends then use a moisturising oil on your hair every week. Are you using hot tools and how often are you washing your hair?
The researchers, from the University of Manchester, first latched onto an old immunosuppressive drug, cyclosporine A, used since the 1980s to prevent transplant organ rejection and reduce symptoms of autoimmune disease.
Hi Mastuh. We don’t have any experience with Sulfur 8, so can’t advise on this. We prefer other natural methods, such as the inversion method and using coconut oil. Please follow the instructions in the blog post for guidance using the inversion method. I hope this helps 🙂
Biotin, also known as Vitamin H, forms a part of the B-complex group of vitamins that help turn food into fuel for energy. It also assists in the metabolism of fats, carbs and amino acids which are the building blocks of protein.

Hi. Thank you so much for the advice but I was wondering. Did you only use it on the scalp at the roots or do you do all of your hair? How much oil did you use? How much almond oil do you mix with the castor oil? Sorry to bombard you with questions I hope you don’t mind.
“The best candidate for hair restoration surgery has had hair loss for a number of years but has stabilized and is not losing more hair quickly,” Kaufman says. “A person needs to have realistic expectations of what can be done to give them a natural appearing hair line.”
As mentioned, i’ve tried all kinds of natural and prescription solutions with minimal results. In addition I suffer from Hashimotos disease which may or may not be playing a part in my hair loss. I currently take levothyroxine daily to cope with this. I’ve always had a suspicion that since taking this drug for the past few years, i’ve lost more hair. It may just be a coincidence in timing.
Hair fall, premature greying, and dandruff are the biggest problems faced by all women now a days. The reasons of hair fall are many, like stress, poor diet and lack of hair care routine. Most of the shampoos available in the market have harmful chemicals in them, that end up damaging the hair even more. The best alternative is to use a shampoo with natural ingredients such as aloe vera, rosemary oil, arnica extracts, saw palmetto.
Not every time no, Anu. You can alternate the days – one day with oil, one day without and so on. Split ends – prevention is better than cure I’m afraid. Once it’s split longer than 1 cm you can hide the split with serum but it’s best to get regular trims and use a weekly moisturising treatment, avoid heat and so on.
My hair actually changes color. It is sometimes red, sometimes brown, and sometimes blond. I don’t know what color it is. It’s naturally very curly, but not ringlets, spirals. It is very, very, soft. It’s not thick or thin. But ever since I was a child I wanted really, really long hair. But it always stops and gets course once it’s a centimeter above my elbow. It just always stops. And I want to grow it long for once. I don’t really know much about hair care, am low budget, and don’t have much time. I’m vegetarian, and I’m a competitive swimmer, so I have to swim in chlorine 5 days a week. I’m clueless! Please help!
Mix one tablespoon of Indian gooseberry or amla powder in two tablespoons of coconut oil and heat until boiling. Strain the oil and massage it onto your scalp before going to bed. The next morning, shampoo your hair as usual. Do this on a weekly basis.
