Hi! I just got engaged, and I’m trying g to grow my hair back out to my waist where it used to be. I have about a year and seven months, and I want my hair back!! It’s to my Hawking now, so I’d say it’s about a fourth of the way there, and with an average of about six inches a year it’d be close but I’m really hoping you can recommend something to help me! My hair is naturally really fine but it’s strong and healthy! Please help!
Even though modern folklore, and even some limited scientific studies, have suggested that the mother’s side of the family is largely responsible for a genetic predisposition toward baldness, the truth is balding is not all our mothers’ fault. In fact, doctors now say baldness patterns are inherited from a combination of many genes on both sides of the family. There are some environmental factors that come into play, too.
Hi Anushka, I am going to try the inversion method. Thanks for the tip! I already take biotin every day and it sure does help make my hair thicker and healthier – I will double up for the next week to see if that helps with hair growth. I’ve been taking it for a year and a half when I started growing my hair out from a pixie cut – it’s also great for growing and strengthening your fingernails. I started growing out my hair 18 months ago and now it is to my shoulders which is roughly .75 of an inch per month. I’ve had a few trims to shape it up – my hair was almost shaved above my ears so it was like starting my hair growth from scratch. I also drink a lot of water and eat plenty of almonds & avocados because I like their health benefits and I eat plenty of other fruits and veggies. A good diet is key to hair growth. I changed my diet from lots of pasta, rice and sugar and the difference in how I feel is amazing. So is my hair since I changed my diet. It was very difficult to break old habits and to stay away from most sugars and sweets, but it was well worth it for my hair growth and for how good I feel. For my main meal each day, I eat a huge bowl of raw veggie salad like cucumbers (my fave), carrots, celery, peppers, lettuce (optional), olives, sunflower seeds, nuts or anything else that suits my fancy at the time, covered in a salad dressing that I make from vinegar and olive oil with spices or sometimes I eat them naked sans dressing. 🙂 I also eat a small portion of meat, beans or eggs for protein and usually a slice of good bread, but the veggie salad is the biggest part of my meal. Delish! Not only has this been very beneficial for my hair, I’ve trimmed my down waistline without really trying. I have seen a big difference in my hair since changing my diet. It’s thicker, shinier and healthier than ever! I also use coconut, olive oil or argan oil in my hair from time to time and I will add the scalp massage with oil to see if this will also work – I’m excited to see if I can grow my hair an inch or more in a week!
The areas where hairs do protrude (and are visible above the skin) include the armpits, face, around the genitals, the front of the chest, the back, and most profusely, on the scalp of the head. A scalp typically contains about 100,000 hair follicles.
HI I always tried to have long hair but then I cut it short and now it’s mid length, I want my hair to grow at least 3 inches please are their any home remedies that I can try, or are their any hair masks I can get to make it grow faster.?
First, I’m going to trace back the current “understanding” of male pattern baldness. What do the masses believe is the cause of hair loss, and why do they believe it? Where did that information come from and who wins from this dogmatic view, while others lose?
i have really bad hair it breaks easy it is either to dry or to oilyand it so frizzy. i want long lush hair but it dosnt seem like its goning happen i will try these when i cananyway. have to keep hope 🙂
Hey! Should I do all the tips so these together are going to work on my hair or if I do the Method and for example I take Vitamin H too it’s gonna be a bit longer/stronger? Sorry for bad English tho and thanks for the tips!
Any time i use virgin coconut oil on either my hair or scalp..my hair fall out in lumps. I think my fine hair cannot handle oild. I have tried using different oils on and off each time they shed like crazy.
Hi Kathleen I’m not too sure to be honest, if you’re experiencing some hair loss through medication then you would not want to increase it by vigorously massaging your head. I would try the rest of the tips and perhaps a more gentler scalp massage?
My hair is growing a bit I’ve been doing this since January and that time it’s was above my shoulder now it’s mid way length down my shoulder and it’s June. How long do you think it will take to get down to my back
I’m just starting my hair journey cus I was on low cut before I’m sure going to try dis method but pls I bought a product for my hair growth (kuza – 100% Indian hemp) I don’t know if it good for my hair pls reply so I will knw if to stop it or continue with it
“In the last 5 to 7 years there has been a boom in the understanding of hair loss,” Cotsarelis tells WebMD. “We’ve made great strides at the level of basic research. Now the question is how we can convert these findings into clinical benefits. Those kinds of leaps really take decades.”
My experience using coconut oil is really good, I just love it! It’s just soo mositurizing and conditioning I apply it twice a week and my hair is perfect and very healthy. But only applying oils wont help if we also eat healthy food that will help us alot more! Like foods rich in Omega 3 fatty acids, ex: Flaxseed. Foods also rich in Vitamin B6 and B7 are good for hair and vitamin E and C for strong hair!
well I used the egg once today and im not joking but my hair grew a little bit, I love this trick now but it stinks like hell and it kinda dries your skin too, if you ever get it on your skin at least.
Hi Taylor. I would say, from personal experience, the inversion method is the most effective for hair GROWTH. If you want to maintain your hair health and growth, I would advise a coconut oil treatment too as it nourishes the hair and keeps it healthy. I hope this helps 🙂
Another option is to mix one-quarter cup of warm water in one-half cup of Indian gooseberry powder and let it sit for about 10 minutes. Apply the paste on your hair and leave it on for 15 to 20 minutes before rinsing it off. Do not shampoo your hair for a few hours. Follow this remedy every few weeks.
Hi, I’ve tried every method in this article, but my hair doesn’t seem to want to grow. My hair is super healthy, but it’s only growing as slow as it did before. I’ve been using these methods for about two months, and my hair has grown about 3/4 of an inch. I have not exposed my hair to heat products whatsoever, or any bleach or coloring products. I have also tried warm argan oil, which doesn’t seem to make it want to grow either. Are there any other methods that might help me??
Hi Thanks for sharing these tips but I just have one question. If you use the inversion method and massage every other day with coconut oil without breaking for four weeks in between treatments until your hair is your desired length will it stop working after awhile or damage your hair? Basically what I’m asking is why do you break for four weeks? Thank you!
“In the late 1980s, the standard of care was to take large grafts, plugs of 12 to 20 hairs, and implant them,” he says. “It would give either a very good or acceptable result. But some men, as they got older and lost some more hair, they got that doll’s-hair or corn-row phenomenon: Little poles of hair jutting out.”
The phases run simultaneously so some hairs on your head will be in the Anagen phase and others in Telogen. For each hair strand, the Anagen phase should start again once the Telogen phase is complete, but some people may experience longer Telogen phases meaning hair is shedding but no new hair is growing.

Women who are pregnant may feel that their hair is actually growing faster. And women who have just had a baby may feel like they are losing their hair at a faster rate than normal. This is because during pregnancy, the hormone estrogen actually causes a woman to have a higher ratio of hair follicles in the growing phase. After the baby is born, hair follicles return to the “resting” phase, making it appear as if they are shedding hair.
Hi maria..I just read your question about where to find amla in US. I too am in US and I buy it from any local Indian/Pakistani (ethnic) grocer/store. You can easily find different brands of amla oil, also whole dried amla and amla powder as well. You can include all of this in your hair care regimen. Hope this helps.
I have been growing my hair out now it will be about 2 months on the 26th of December. Before reading all the tips and strategies that were suggested i had already been practicing a few that was mentioned. Before my beard amd head hair was very thin and wasnt growing any longer but now my hair is already about 3 inches long. Boiton was a huge factor in my journey. I take the 5000ml biotin pill with a one a day vitamin every day just to cover what my diet may be lacking. I also message my scalp once a day with miss jessies curl conditioner followed with cold water everyday . I will keep you updated on how far my hair comes.
Hair fall, premature greying, and dandruff are the biggest problems faced by all women now a days. The reasons of hair fall are many, like stress, poor diet and lack of hair care routine. Most of the shampoos available in the market have harmful chemicals in them, that end up damaging the hair even more. The best alternative is to use a shampoo with natural ingredients such as aloe vera, rosemary oil, arnica extracts, saw palmetto.
Medical conditions. Thyroid disease, lupus, diabetes, iron deficiency anemia, eating disorders, and anemia can cause hair loss. Most times, when the underlying condition is treated, the hair will return unless there is scarring as in some forms of lupus, lichen planus or follicular disorders.

I always get oily, unkempt looking hair after I use coconut oil. It helps my hair but it’s awfully hard to style when you have to be out for most of the day and you still want to look acceptable. Any tips?
Hi Whitney. I’m so sorry you’re having problems with your hair – we can all relate! You say it breaks off, in which case you might actually NEED a haircut. This will keep it healthy and prevent it from splitting. With regards to other solutions, have you tried any hair treatments? LUSH have some great ones, and there are also hundreds online you can make at home? It sounds to me like your hair is not necessarily struggling to grow, but is unhealthy and therefore you are losing length and fullness. I hope these tips help 🙂
Why egg yolk? Yolk is mostly fats. It may add fatrnmess/soiftness to hair, but if you are after protein (and I am not sure if topical application will actually add to real hair) the albumin is good protein,,,,in a _fresh_ egg….
Hi there…sorry to hear that! I like to alternate with the oils. I wash my hair every other day, so when I’m not washing my hair I do the inversion method without any oil and then when I am washing my hair the next morning I will use coconut oil when massaging and leave it overnight. You can adapt the method to suit your needs, for example if you only wash your hair once a week then you can use coconut oil just once, but still do the inversion the rest of the days without oil. I hope that makes sense!
Honey is a great hair conditioner that makes your hair smooth and boosts the health of hair follicles which are responsible for hair growth. Honey is a natural antioxidant and will make your scalp healthy and stimulate hair growth. Also, this ingredient prevents moisture loss from the scalp because of the high sugar content. This leads to prevention of hair fall and hair follicles strength.
Vitamin B plays a large role in the health of your hair, and getting enough of it is essential to keeping thick hair and reducing how much you shed. Good sources of vitamin B include fruits, vegetables, nuts and brown rice, among others.
This look is very low maintenance. Because of the Balayage highlight technique I used, she can go three to four months without a touch up because it looks so natural! She can blow dry it with a round brush to recreate the style I gave her, or throw some leave-in conditioner and a styling cream in for some natural texture.

This form of hair loss can also be associated with other medical conditions like coronary heart disease and prostate problems for men, as well as hormonal imbalances in women, according to the National Institutes of Health.
Hello, I just found your blog and was interested in your thoughts. My hair seems grows pretty fast, I’ve had it short for the past 4 years and the cut usually gets messy after about 8 weeks. This drives me nuts, previously I always had long hair and found it easier to manage. Now I want to grow it out quickly and I’ve noted your comments on coconut, argon and olive oils but was curious as I’ve seen no one mention cold pressed castor oil. I’ve found this fantastic for my eyelashes and started using it for its rejuvenating and growing properties. I would have thought the properties in it that are useful for lashes ie the nutrients and folicle stimulation would work the same with hair. The cold pressed castor oil seems to be valued higher for eyelash growth than the other three oils that are mentioned here for hair. Just wondering, lol, discuss.

In this case billion dollar drugs like Finasteride are creating life-altering – often irreversible, side effects in thousands of men every year, including documented suicides, and it’s time we shine some light on the darkness.
mix 2 egg yolk with 1tsp honey and amla oil or Castor oil, or live oil, apply to your hair and scalp and massage it everywhere put a plastic cap and sit under a hair steamer, and leave the mixture on your head as long as you can, then Shampoo.
I had chemotherapy and radiation for tonsil cancer about 10 years ago and I can’t get my hair to grow no matter what I’ve tried. I was told to try coconut oil and a regrowth hair product. Will it work or any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated
While you’re doing it make sure you are tipping your head over slightly so it’s hanging over. Sitting on a chair and bending your head over works very well. By doing this, you’re encouraging the blood to flow to your head and are stimulating your hair follicles to encourage the Anagen stage.
Hey there, dandruff and an unhealthy scalp could be contributing to your hair problems. I would start with trying to get rid of the dandruff, there are quite a few over-the-counter treatments or you could find a natural remedy (apple cider vinegar perhaps?) to help. It’s really important to maintain a healthy scalp so I would recommend doing this, cutting back on how many times you wash your hair as if you wash it more frequently it could make the problem worse. Try a little head massage every few days too, drink plenty of water and a healthy balanced diet with plenty of protein. It may take time, but hopefully, you will start to see an improvement – let me know how you get on!
Thank you so much for sharing your method, My hair had cut very short and I am very up-sad now. So i want to try your method as far as possible. It compulsory to eat egg for hair growth because I am veg. I even notice my friends who love egg and she eat many. I notice her hair is growing very fast. Mind was just opposite to her. Thank you
But hey – whoa there, Dr Hawkshaw. Some of us aren’t actually “suffering” from hair loss. Some of us bald guys are enjoying not having any hair, and see no need for this new treatment, and in fact see you scientists constantly trying to cleanse the world of our rugged, sensitive, yet ultimately hairless look as something of an insult.
The Inversion method. Haha. I did not realize at first how much of an afro it will give you if you massage your scalp for 5 minutes when you have only have 4.5 inches of curly hair. My question is it better to massage it when wet, dry or with oils?
I totally agree Camilla! I’m a big advocate of nourishing your hair from the insides, too. I load up on eggs, almonds, spinach and broccoli when my hair is not feeling it’s best, and the difference is astounding! Thanks for sharing your tips, love Flaxseed.
For example, laureth sulfates and sodium laurel are found in lots of shampoos, but they are also found in most of the dishwashing detergents, and they are too harsh for the hair. Similarly, conditions with silicones may be helpful for people who have thick hair, but for those with thinner hair, they will build up on the hair, weighing the hair down and making it look thinner and flatter. Silicones can only be washed out with shampoos that have harsh chemicals and this can be damaging.
